Every great room needs a starting point. I recommend you start with something you LOVE. Sometimes it is a piece of art. Maybe a rug with colors that speak to you. Possibly a fabric that you dream about using on drapery panels. Whatever it is...that's where you can start with the design for the whole room.
For the project featured here, the starting point was the French trumeau mirror in cerused oak from Restoration Hardware. I wanted to use it in a hallway bath project and run the mirror from the countertop to the ceiling. This required a couple of considerations. First, the mirror needed to be clear coated with a marine quality lacquer to protect it from any stray water damage from the sink. And second, the vanity and countertop needed to be carefully measured and adjusted to make sure the mirror could sit right on the surface of the countertop.
When the final touches were coming together on the bath remodel, I knew I needed to source lighting fixtures that were tall and thin to flank the mirror. After a lot of online searching, I decided on these beautiful 2-light wall sconces from Joss & Main.
The final project was a study in neutrals - grey, white, black and natural wood. The texture of the rug and the wood accents are really what makes the room work.
